Increased Expression of Plasma-Induced ABCC1 mRNA in Cystic Fibrosis

The ABCC1 gene is structurally and functionally related to the cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator gene (CFTR). Upregulation of ABCC1 is thought to improve lung function in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF); the mechanism underlying this effect is unknown. We analyzed the ABCC1 promoter single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP rs504348), plasma-induced ABCC1 mRNA expression levels, ...

Increased expression of senescence markers in cystic fibrosis airways.

Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is a chronic lung disease characterized by chronic neutrophilic airway inflammation and increased levels of neutrophil elastase (NE) in the airways. We have previously reported that NE treatment triggers cell cycle arrest. Cell cycle arrest can lead to senescence, a complete loss of replicative capacity. Importantly, senescent cells can be proinflammatory and would perpetua...

Increased arginase activity in cystic fibrosis airways.

RATIONALE Airway nitric oxide concentrations are reduced in cystic fibrosis (CF). Arginases compete for L-arginine, the substrate of nitric oxide synthesis. OBJECTIVES We hypothesized that increased arginase activity may be one factor contributing to nitric oxide deficiency in CF. MEASUREMENTS We therefore studied sputum arginase activity, exhaled nitric oxide, and pulmonary function in pat...

Prevalence of Cystic Fibrosis Trans-membrane Conductance Regulator Gene common mutations in children with cystic fibrosis in Isfahan, Iran

Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is the most common lethal genetic disorder of Cystic Fibrosis Trans-membrane Conductance (CFTR) Regulator gene mutations. We aimed to investigate common mutations in CF patients and to assess its possible relationship with clinical presentations. Materials and Methods: This cross sectional study was conducted on 36 CF patients who were referred to a tertiary ped...

Plasma vitamin K1 concentrations in cystic fibrosis.

Plasma concentrations of vitamin K1 were similar in 37 patients with cystic fibrosis (median 46 ng/l) and 16 controls (49 ng/l). The plasma concentrations were lower than those previously described in adults, but higher than in neonates. There was no association between an increase in prothrombin time and vitamin K1 plasma concentration.
